Alma Mayes, age 80, of Midlothian, passed away Friday, February 8, 2008 at Pleasant Manor Rehabilitation Center, Waxahachie. She was born July 14, 1927 in McKinney, Texas the fourth of ten children to Roger and Fannie Myrtle Kerr. Alma graduated from Carrollton High School. Since 1948, Alma lived with her faithful and loving husband of 60 years, Jack in Midlothian. She was a loving mother and homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Midlothian. She loved living in the peaceful country where she could enjoy beautiful scenery and her pet cattle. She was extremely involved the First Ladies National Beefmaster Association.
Alma is survived by her husband Jack; four children Michael Mayes and his wife, Debbi of Carthage, TX and their children, Brandon and Marcie, and granddaughter Kailee; Deborah Wilkins and her husband, Mark of Fort Smith, AR and their sons, Christopher and Matthew; Terry Mayes and his son, Austin of Seattle, WA; and Susan Mayes of Dallas; five sisters: Ruth Baker of Irving, Lois Good of Carrollton, Joyce Barkley of Dallas, Patricia Laufenberg and Phyllis Peters both of Portland, OR.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Pliske; brothers, Billy, Dudley and Harold Kerr. Interment will follow at the Sardis Cemetery.
