bullet  General Notes:

That Hiram was the son of George Freeman seems settled by the following:
"In December 1836 Thomas Strong petitioned the Clay County court to force two of Freeman's sons, Washington and Hiram, to become his apprentices...Strongs's brother-in-law Edward Davidson asked the court to bind Freeman's "infant child" Elizabeth to him. Each Petition yielded a one-sentence order from the jude, turning Freeman's children into servants."

Hiram seems to have had two families in KY. One family including wife, Eady Chance, and their children is enumerated in Breathitt Co., census records. The other family is found in Clay Co., KY., including Lucinda Freeman and her children (born after 1841 or so). Lucinda lived in close proximity to Hiram's father, George in 1850, and close to Clarisa Centers in the 1860 census (George died in the mid 1850s). This theory is supported by the death certificate of Canada Freeman, Lucinda's son, which identified his mother as Lucinda, and his father as Hiram. 3 4 5
