Obituary-The Highland Central State, Highland, Doniphan County, KS
Friday, 13 January 1882, Vol II, Number 11, page 3, column 5
"At her residence five miles north of Highland, Jan. 4, 1882, Mrs. Isabella Harness. Mrs. Harness was the daughter of Melancthon and Nancy Furnan (typo, should be Turner) and was born in Bedford Co., Virginia. She emigrated to Buchanan County, MO., in 1842 and was married to David Harness, Feb 4, 1846, and came to Doniphan County, Kans, in 1869. She had suffered from chronic bronchitis for ten years and this disease finally caused her death. She leaves a husband to mourn the loss of the companion of his youth. She was the mother of fourteen children, nine of whom are living. She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1876. She had known for some time that the sands of her life had almost ran out, and expressed herself as ready to go when the summons came. A short time before she died she exclaimed, "welcome death." She passed away peacefully and easily." 1
