bullet  Death Notes:

as described in his obituary:

"James David Tunnell was born near Scottsville, Mo., Dec. 4, 1868. He was one of a family of 5 sons and a daughter born to Alfred S. and Martha Tunnell.
After attending the rural schools he was graduated from the Humphreys College. Later he attended the Keokuk Medical school, where he graduated in 1896. He practiced his profession in Reger until about 10 years ago, when he retired from active practice. During that time, he experienced all the trials and tribulations of the traditional country doctor.
Jan. 22, 1899 he was married to Ida E. Rogers. No children coming to this union, he took into his home the four children of his sister-in-law. These he reared as his own. They in turn looked upon him as the only father they knew.
He served as a First Lieutenant in the Medical corps in World War 1, enlisting Sept. 12, 1918 and mustered out Aug. 28, 1919. For years he was active in the American Legion affairs.
His brothers, Robert, William, Wallace, Jesse, Bill and a sister, Mrs. Alpha Whaley, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Ida; four nieces and four nephews, and other relatives and a sorrowing community.
Services were held at his home at 3:30 p.m., Sunday, June 29, 1947, conducted by Rev. W. R. Adams, assisted by Rev. Stella Bachman. A trio from his American Legion Post, consisting of Jimmie Pfeiffer, Carl Holt, and Millard Chapman sang "My Buddy" and "My Faith Looks Up To The[sic]." Mrs. Gladys Myers sang "He Knows" with Mrs. Neil Freeland piano accompanist. The bearers, all brother Legion members, were L. E. Bauman, Geo Chambers, Guy Sterling, Guy Brown, Wallace Grice and Loren Couch.
Military honors were tendered at the grave in Schrock Cemetery by the Sullivan Co. Post of the American Legion"
