  General Notes:

OPAL: Mattie. After Grandpa married Mattie Smith, then Mattie had Nancy. Nancy and my Uncle Dave , the oldest of Grandpa's family, married .
ARLENE: Married? They were first cousins! They were step. .
OPAL: No relation. They were no relation, Nancy was a Smith. (Stewart ?)
ARLENE: Oh, I see, Mattie already had Nancy when she married Grandpa?
OPAL: Yeah.
ARLENE: Oh, okay.
OPAL: And so. ..
ARLENE: She was a Nancy Smith?
OPAL: Well, she took the name of Greenhaw, she wore the name of Greenhaw.
ARLENE: But she was a Nancy Smith, though, to begin with.
OPAL: As far as I know, yeah. Dave married and then Uncle Dave passed away, so then she, she never married. Nancy was the mother of Myrtle Greenhaw, well, she wasn't a Greenhaw because she was born out of wedlock, but anyway, she took the name Greenhaw. So Nancy was bit by a spider no, no, not a spider, a centipede on her left arm. She died quite a few years after that, after she was bit by this centipede and I can't remember what she died from but it was some typhoid or something I don't know. But anyway, she and Uncle Tom never married, so when she died, all the prints of the legs of this scorpion were on her arm. Black, came up black, on her body. I just remember them talking about it, I was too young to really realize what was going on, but I remember Mother telling it in later years. So Grandma Greenhaw, Mattie, raised Myrtle , along with Aunt Lizzie. Then Aunt Lizzie got married, she and George Lum and of course Grandma Greenhaw and Grandpa Greenhaw lived with them after Aunt Lizzie was married, they lived together. Between Grandma Greenhaw and Lizzie they raised Myrtle until Myrtle married. ⁴
