"His parents moved to Montgomery County when he was about 12 years ol d. He came to Illinois in May, 1831, first stopping at Jacksonville. M r. Hathaway returned to Kentucky in 1832, and remained there two yea rs at Sharpsburg and Mt. Sterling as a clerk. He came back to Morgan Coun ty, Illinois in 1834 and in 1835 went to the Job settlement at McDonough C ounty and engaged inn merchandising as a partner of Dr. George B. Roger s, with whom he came to the state in 1831. He closed his business ther e, and came to Mechanicsburg, Sangamon County, in 1838 and first engag ed in teaching. A year or two later he commenced merchandising with B. Lo gan Hall. Wesley Hathaway and Mary M. Hall were married September 18, 18 45 in Sangamon County, where they had seven children...."
