"John P. Wood moved on to California during the gold rush where he found a large gold nugget at Sutter's Mill. He had the nugget fashioned into a ring, which he sent back to his younger brother George Washington Wood (this author's great grandfather) This is the familiar "Wood Ring" with overlapping hearts and it remains in the family to this day (my older brother Michael wears it)." ^{1 2}
